The Water Cabin.
The Water Cabin is a recently renovated 1930’s cedar-clad cabin located on the bank of the River Thurne in the heart of the Norfolk Broads National Park. With two bedrooms (sleeps 4) and open plan living, it is the ideal retreat for a romantic getaway or family holiday at any time of the year.
In the master bedroom we have taken away everything that isn’t entirely conducive to a good night’s sleep. No fuss, no distraction.
This beautifully simple and modest room is pared-back to include reading lamps, a rail for clothes and a bed. The Eve Sleep ‘Modular Double Bed’ and mattress is inspired by the Japanese approach to minimalism.
From the window, you will look across the decking and along the bend of the River Thurne.
The twin bedroom features two Eve Sleep single ‘Bed Frames’ and mattresses. Much like the master bedroom, it’s simple and neutral with a natural colour palette. Both bedrooms feature portholes, paying subtle reference to what lies outside. The main window overlooks the garden.
The dining room benefits from the morning sun and feels cosy at night. A generous sized table provides the perfect setting for a leisurely breakfast or relaxed evening meal.
To ensure the open plan living space feels uncluttered we incorporated large storage cupboards for coats and suitcases to be tucked out of sight.
The kitchen is intentionally minimal and functional, yet is well equipped to cater for a hearty family meal. There’s an electric oven, grill and hobs and a fridge with a small freezer compartment. Please note that, in the spirit of slow living, we chose not to offer a dishwasher.
The living room is bright and airy with two large picture windows overlooking the river and a skylight that allows light to flood in to the space. A door leads out on to the decking and garden.
We offer a collection of inspirational travel and design books and magazines – encouraging you to slow down, unwind and switch off. There is a television with DVD player but no wifi or terrestrial signal.
The bathroom provides an uplifting start to the day. Light will pour in through the skylight as you use the extra large shower. In contrast, it is a cozy space for a long soak in the bath at the end of the day.

The Water Cabin sleeps up to four guests, with two in the master bedroom and two in the twin bedroom.
We offer bookings from three nights (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), four nights (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) or full week blocks (commencing on either Friday or Monday). Check in is at 4pm and check out at 10.30am.
We are located on the river so would highly recommend you hire life jackets – especially if you have children. We recommend contacting Ali from Martham Ferry Boat Hire.
Unfortunately we’re unable to accommodate pets given our own family suffer with allergies. Sorry.
This isn’t just a ‘holiday let’ to us, this is our home. We have poured blood, sweat and tears in to renovating the Water Cabin, so we respectfully ask our guests to treat it as they would their own home.
We don't allow hen or stag parties. Or any other large gatherings.
We don’t offer broadband, however, you can get relatively good signal at the cabin. That said, we would actively encourage all guests to ‘switch off’ in order to best enjoy and connect with the Water Cabin.
We don’t have terrestrial TV signal. We promote slow living and as such offer a TV & DVD player, books and magazines.
Towels are provided.
Unfortunately, because of the remote location, narrow uneven paths and the fact the Water Cabin is a 1930s structure, we’re unable to offer full disabled access and facilities. If you have any specific questions about the accessibility of the Water Cabin, please contact us to ask – we will do our utmost to help.
We don’t have a cot, however, a standard travel cot will fit in the twin room (although it would be a bit if a squeeze and would be next to the radiator, of which you could switch off).
We do offer a high chair.
We have a microwave in the cupboard.
Ahead of your arrival we will share with you a list of our personal favourite places to go and things to do.
